The Advancing Equity Coalition (AEC) is a multiracial, multicultural movement of families, students, educators, and community partners working to ensure every child across Minneapolis and surrounding districts has access to a high-quality education.

Founded in 2020, AEC brings together ten local organizations committed to addressing the root causes of educational inequity through relationship-based organizing, power-building, and community-led advocacy.

With a small but mighty team, deep local trust, and a growing regional footprint, AEC is uniquely positioned to support families who are often left out of education policy conversations that impact them most. What started in Minneapolis Public Schools has grown to include families and students in first-ring suburbs like Richfield and Robbinsdale, where communities of color are organizing for lasting change.

We’re currently supporting families impacted by the Cruz-Guzman case, which challenges racial and economic segregation in Minnesota schools—and we’re building the political will to ensure every student, in every district, can thrive.

What makes AEC different? We’re trusted connectors. We hold deep relationships within schools and communities, while also working with administrators and decision-makers. We don’t just point out what’s broken—we lift up what’s working and help it grow. When a policy doesn’t make sense, when a community needs support, or when a solution needs people-power, AEC is who they call.
