Rescuing Without Borders

Across America Boxer Rescue is 501(c)3 organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming Boxer dogs across the US.  AABR is an all-volunteer, foster home-based, donation-driven rescue that helps dogs directly through transport, foster and adoption, as well as indirectly by providing support for other Boxer rescues across the country. Our current volunteer base covers over 30 states, although we got our start right here in Minnesota.

Our Rescued Animals

AABR has placed close to 800 Boxers with forever families over the past 9 years, including 43 adoptions so far in 2023.  We have been very successful in placing bonded pairs, seniors and medical needs dogs and we are very proud of that.  Between owner surrender requests and callouts from shelters across the country, we receive more than 50 requests for assistance each week.

Many of our dogs come to us severely neglected or abused.  Some dogs are surrendered due to medical issues that were too demanding or expensive for their families to support.  Regardless of the reason, AABR volunteers are willing to step up to help these dogs get healthy and find a home that is well-matched to their personalities and needs.

2023 Goals

In the 4th quarter of 2023, we find that we are still feeling the issues from the past three years.  Vetting costs are up and donations are down due to the economy.  The requests for animals in need has not declined during this time, however.  In fact, shelters across the country are in crisis mode with no empty kennels and are having to euthanize for space.  We currently have 23 dogs in foster homes under our care, which includes monthly preventatives and all vetting costs.  We have been able to bring 47 dogs into the rescue in 2023, thanks in huge part to our shelter partners, vet clinic partners and volunteers.

We also continue to strive to keep our overhead and administrative costs as low as possible so that all funds from events, fundraisers and donations go straight to the care and medical and vetting needs of our rescued dogs.  Our dedicated, hardworking board of directors (who also double as our coordinators) not only donate their time to saving the lives of Boxers, other resources are donated, as well, to help offset the cost of things such as postage, shipping, supplies, medications/special food, etc.

Expand Foster Support

Foster volunteers are the vital force allowing AABR to help Boxers in need.  Since it's beginning in 2014, AABR has placed an average of over 100 dogs per year into foster homes. Foster families provide love and financial support to these dogs, and also play a key role in helping these dogs find forever homes.  AABR has an impressive 95% success rate in its adoptions, due in large part to the collaboration between our foster volunteers and potential adopters – helping to match the right dog for each particular home.

Finding more committed foster homes is key to furthering AABR’s mission. We are actively campaigning to recruit more foster families.   We are also seeking to help Boxers with more serious behavioral issues get necessary training so that they can be introduced into family-based foster care.

Support Senior and Special Needs dogs

We currently support multiple dogs that are in permanent foster as they are deemed “unadoptable” based on advanced age, medical condition or other factors.   A key objective of AABR’s 2023 fundraising campaign is to increase the financial support for our dogs in permanent foster care so that we can free up resources to respond to other calls for help.  We currently have four dogs in need of foster or adoptive homes and are covering the cost of their board/training/food/medications/supplies until they find a place to land.

Impact of Your Gift

So far in 2023, our medical and training expenses are just over $60,000.  We have routine vetting going on weekly with our new intakes and current foster dogs and we have additional medical expenses coming up by the end of the year for spay/neuter surgeries for some of our adopted pups and heartworm treatment for four of our fostered dogs.

Your donation will help cover costs of common expenses such as:

  • Microchip: $20
  • Intake vaccinations and dewormers: $300
  • Spay/Neuter surgery: $300-$800
  • Monthly preventatives: $100
  • Monthly cost of special diet food for dogs with allergies or medical conditions: $90-$130
  • Training class to address behavioral issues: $150
