Determined to keep their children out of institutional care in 1984, a group of concerned parents initiated a grass-roots effort to keep their children with disabilities in private homes and in community settings.  Building on that foundation of assisting all individuals in their right to dignified, independent lives in the community, Access continues to grow and offer innovative and caring programs for individuals with a variety of disabilities. With the caring staff at Access, we offer a lifetime of impact.

Our goal for each person we serve is directed by values which include daily interaction with other community members, making informed choices, taking risks, and planning for the future. Today, Access’ clients continue to enjoy living independently in their own homes where they receive support from trained staff that assist them with daily living skills.

The Michael W. Czichotzki Fund and MCLC

The Michael W. Czichotzki Learning Center (MCLC) is named in honor of Michael W. Czichotzki, a client of Access who passed away November 2007. He is dearly missed, but the impact he made on the lives of many will continue on in the MCLC.

Michael Czichotzki was born November 12, 1971 in Fargo, ND to Mark and LaVerne (Wee) Czichotzki. He grew up and attended school in Moorhead, graduating in 1993. From the age of 13, Michael received residential services from Access of the Red River Valley. Michael faced many challenges throughout his life and met them with the help and support of Access advocates and staff. He touched many lives and hearts and will be dearly missed.

A memorial was established in Michael Czichotzki's honor. Gifts and donations to The Michael W. Czichotzki Fund will be used towards the Michael W. Czichotzki Learning Center (MCLC)and all the services, activities ,and projects provided there. Just as Michael made a positive impact on so many people, the MCLC was created with the hope to make a positive impact on others. It is used for many of the programs and services Access offers to all of our clients and is an ideal location for educational and recreational activities.
