Asian American Organizing Project

Asian American Organizing Project (AAOP) is a grassroots nonprofit organization that empowers young Asian Minnesotans (14-35 years old), prioritizing those holding LGBTQ+ and women/femme identities, to create systemic changes towards an equitable, conscious, and just society.

AAOP’s programs and community organizing efforts started in 2015 to harness the Minnesotan Asian political power, and to break the unproductive, perpetual voter engagement from external parties with our Asian communities. 

Since then, over 700 volunteers and supporters have helped us break that cycle through year-round engagement on Elections and voter education, organized youth-related issues and concerns, mobilized and funded Asian community partners on the 2020 Census, provided mutual aid during the pandemic, and provided social change funds for youth-led initiatives. 

Our organizing path forward is to create systems change to address root problems, sustain the momentum of the Asian youth vote in a healthier democracy, and create change that values youth leadership and knowledge for an equitable and just future. 

Our organizing efforts will create a long-lasting impact on a generation of young Asian Minnesotan where there will be increased:

- political consciousness, political will and political power, 

- foster a household of intergenerational Asian voters,

- and sustaining places of belonging and leadership for young community organizers.
