A Mothers Love Initiative

A Mother’s Love (AMLI) Initiative believes healing begins when we invest in building a resilient village through protecting and advancing community values. In line with our 3E’s for success – Education, Economics, and Empowerment – AMLI supports families carrying “invisible suitcases” filled with trauma, mental health challenges, substance abuse and addiction, and homelessness. Our team of African American mothers, fathers, and advocates use our own lived experiences to help them instill stability, community safety, and hope.

Each year, AMLI hires youth from communities most affected by violence as well as academic and economic disparities. Last year we hired 50 youth, and we hope to do the same in summer 2026. We partner with businesses, churches, food-security organizations, and neighborhood groups to give young people their first paid work experience. They learn job skills, leadership, gardening, food security, and community beautification while serving the neighborhoods they call home. 

Your Give to the Max gift helps us:

• Provide meaningful paid work for youth ages 12 to 17

• Offer mentorship, empowerment classes, and training in de-escalation, mental health, and opioid and fentanyl abuse prevention

• Create cultural, educational, and recreational experiences for youth and families

• Strengthen families through shared moments that build trust and connection

• Deliver wrap-around support to those facing trauma, violence, or homelessness

• Purchase a van to transport youth workers safely to job sites and events

• Sustain our year-round programming for the more than 3,000 youth and families we serve

Our team is made up of mothers, fathers, and youth who understand these struggles firsthand. We are trained in mentoring, mental health support, harm reduction, First Aid and CPR, Narcan, peer recovery, and more. We meet people where they are and work alongside the community and local law enforcement to create safer, stronger neighborhoods.
