Robert raising money for CHISAGO COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
This is a fund raising campaign to retire the outstanding debt and help rejuvenate this historic restoration project.
The Moody Round Barn is the last remaining round barn in Chisago County and only one of about a dozen still standing in Minnesota. This barn was built in 1915 by Charles A. Moody and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Sites.
Together the Chisago County Historical Society and the townships of Chisago Lakes and Franconia have invested more than $550,000 to save this structure and its accompanying Arts & Crafts style farm house. Together we were successful in establishing the Moody Lake Park where these structures now reside! Significant restoration work was performed on both structures but additional work is needed.
Unfortunately, the economic downturn and CCHS reduced funding and income has thwarted our ability to retire the remaining $30,000 debt. The interest payments on this loan continue to erode our financial position.
The historical society has been forced to halt all the restoration work necessary to complete this project. Meanwhile, mother nature continues with her relentless pursuit to reverse the work that has already been accomplished!
The Chisago County Historical Society is actively looking for corporations, companies and individuals who are committed to help with the continuing work needed to complete the restoration of these magnificent landmarks.
Our immediate goal is to retire the outstanding $30,000 debt and raise an additional $20,000 to purchase and install replacement windows. Currently the window openings have been boarded up to protect the building. In addition, the round barn needs significant electrical and masonry work that will allow it to be better used for safer tours and more civic functions.
Please donate generously, if you can, to help restart this important restoration project for the community.
