The Garden-in-a-Box kit includes a raised bed garden box, soil, vegetable plants, fencing, an informational packet on vegetable gardening, and webinars on gardening basics and preserving & preparing fresh produce, along with other educational materials.
The Garden-in-a-Box program continues to grow. In the last 5 years we have provided 1200 garden kits to low income families, youth and seniors. The kits are distributed through non profits at no cost to the program participants. MSHS will make site visits and help with any problems that have arisen, give advice, and receive updates on how successful the participants have been in their gardens.
In 2015 we donated:
- 67,000 lbs. of soil
- 2,499 vegetable plants
- to 1,727 children and their families.
The Garden-in-a-Box program has spanned the Twin Cities, Duluth, Faribault, St. Cloud and Red Wing. Your support will help us provide the knowledge of how to garden and grow one's own food, which can last a lifetime; teaching members of the community how to grow something as well as providing the materials to complete the tasks themselves allows people to take ownership of the project.
