When you think of Minnesota, certain things come to mind – our beautiful lakes and rivers, the majestic forests and our gorgeous open prairies.

The Nature Conservancy has a proven record of protecting and preserving land and water on a broad scale--- but what makes our organization truly unique is our ability to tailor our resources and apply a science-based approach to meet the most pressing regional conservation needs.

Forests renew the air we breathe and give us fiber, food, fuel and fresh water. In Minnesota, more than 42,000 people have jobs that depend on forest industries, which generate $2 billion in annual wages.

Our rivers, lakes and wetlands supply clean drinking water, food and wildlife habitat. In North Dakota and South Dakota, for example, thousands of shallow wetlands and grasslands in the prairie pothole region provide essential breeding habitat for millions of ducks and other waterfowl.

Outdoor recreation is important for our health, our economy and our overall well-being. Residents and visitors alike appreciate the natural beauty and recreation opportunities provided by Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota’s forests, grasslands, lakes and rivers. In Minnesota alone, 65 percent of residents participate in wildlife-related recreation.
