Increase Healthy Food Access and Promote Community in North Minneapolis

$825

raised by 16 people

$2,000 goal

In an effort to relieve financial strain, increase access to local foods, and build a stronger sense of community, the Tiny Fields Project distributes boulevard vegetable garden kits to neighbors throughout North Minneapolis. Each kit includes enough seeds and seedlings to plant a 7ft x 12ft space with a variety of vegetables. Participants get assistance tilling their bed and receive beginner's guide to vegetable gardening that emphasizes sustainable gardening practices. Participants then use an active social media group for continued learning, garden tips, and recipes.

Making local food accessible to the neighborhood and teaching participants how to utilize fresh produce promotes sustainable, healthy eating habits. Previous Tiny Fields participants have reported saving up to 40% on their weekly grocery bill during harvest and have shared that their children developed a love of gardening and eating vegetables after participating.

Tiny Fields are provided to participants on a pay-what-you-can basis. Annually, the cost of growing a new Tiny Field is $55 and a returning Tiny Field is $25. Please consider supporting your or your neighbors' access to healthy foods with a contribution to the Tiny Fields project.

The Tiny Fields Project is a program of the Victory Neighborhood Association, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
