African Career, Education & Resource (ACER) is a Black-led organization that has supported African Diaspora communities in the northwest suburbs of Minneapolis and the greater Twin Cities region since 2008.

As the leading issue-based community organization working to uplift and amplify the African Diaspora, ACER is building power for systemic change that advances racial and economic equity in communities.

ACER is championing Housing Justice by connecting residents to the vital resources that they need to stay in their homes. Since the eviction moratorium ended our work has become more necessary. We are assisting tenants with their RentHelpMN applications and connecting people facing eviction with legal aid. ACER believes in empowering renters to advocate for their right to safe and stable housing; we organize residents to discuss issues facing their apartments or townhomes and assist them in taking concrete action to ensure that their demands are met.

We support tenants by:

  • helping people with the process of filing for rental assistance and help with utilities
  • connecting people to legal aid resources when they are facing eviction or unfair management
  • advancing policies that protect tenants and foster Just Housing practices which keep landlords and management from engaging in predatory housing practices
  • organizing tenants in apartments and townhomes to take action and push management to provide safe, healthy, and stable housing
