The Leech Lake Tribal College's Lakers Basketball Program was established in 2013 to promote extra-curricular activities and gain community engagement.  Men's and Women's teams consist of players from the local area, most within the Leech Lake and Red Lake Reservations and a few from out of state.  Many of the student-athletes are first-generation students.

The goal of the program is to motivate, encourage, and empower leaders to take pride in their community by working as a team.

The Lakers compete in the Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, an independent collegiate league consisting of private, public, and tribal colleges and universities.

The Lakers do not have a home court to play games, practice, and/or to call home.  The team utilizes local high school gymnasium and community centers to host games and practices.  However, the team still manages to compete and represent LLTC and the local tribal communities.

The Lakers need your help.  The majority of games are away with many in other states.  The program is in need of assistance to ensure LLTC and the community are represented in an athletic stage.

Program Highlights:

  1. The Basketball Program has the highest graduation and retention rate of any program at LLTC.
  2. Student-Athletes are local players who are highly competitive with NJCAAA and private school teams; consisting of talents from all over the nation.
  3. Highly engaged with local youths program; Leech Lake Reservation has a youth basketball program with the same namesake "Little Lakers", which encourages physical activity and teamwork.

Support the Lakers today and help transform boys into men!
