This year,  for Give to the Max day, help support a dog rescue near and dear to my heart with a mission that I couldn't be more passionate about, saving dogs from unfortunate circumstances such as hoarding,  puppy mills or living outside homeless on a reservation. We truly do our best to ensure no matter the circumstance,  No Dog is Left Behind. Over the past 16 months,  my husband Jon and I have fostered 17 dogs and puppies, volunteered hundreds of hours of time and hundreds of dollars to support the rescue. Although all of our fosters have made an impact on our lives,  just as much as we have theirs, Morticia's story touched me the most this year.  This past June we were asked to save dogs from a hoarding house in Texas.  Of course,  I jumped at the chance to help, taking a day off of work to be at transport to help with vetting and being willing to take home the one we thought could be pregnant. I named her Morticia thinking that was fitting considering the creepy house she came from.  For days,  she wouldn't look at me,  I couldn't touch her and she was absolutely terrified,  just laying in my bathroom trembling. She'd only eat off the floor and only if I wasn't there.  She pooped and immediately ate it,  like it was the only meal she ever knew.  She didn't know what love,  furniture or outside was and she had zero trust for people. Three weeks after arriving to our home,  she gave birth to 5 tiny babies weighing 4-6 ounces each.  Despite my best efforts we lost two babies.  She was the best mom to her three girls and wouldn't let them out of her sight for weeks. When they were about 6 weeks old,  she finally let me take over and decided she wanted to learn to be a dog! The only thing in life she seemed comfortable with was other dogs. Slowly,  she started watching our dogs and following their lead. Her babies, Blossom,  Ophelia and Wednesday found the best homes right away and left at about 10 weeks of age.  Morticia, needed more time and was with us for nearly 5 months and her transformation was the biggest of even the puppy mill momma's we have saved.  She learned to love the yard,  running and playing,  toys and furniture. Best of all,  she's learned that people won't hurt her anymore and she's loved and cared for.  She was the hardest to let go,  but she found the best mommy to love her and another dog to keep her company, exactly what she deserves! Rescue isn't easy,  I often shed many tears about it and wish I could do more.  So,  won't you help today? Even $5 DOES make a difference! We even have an anonymous donor match if we raise $3,000! I know we can do it!
