Project Ready prepares a new generation for success by integrating academic skill-building with life skill development and college culture awareness. It’s a student-centered program that will meet twice weekly from January to April and is geared towards students in grades 9-12. Not only will students be matched with a mentor during their senior year, but they’ll also participate in a HBCU tour around the Washington, DC metro area. Students will tour Hampton University, Howard University, Morgan State University and Virginia Union University as well as the African American History Museum.
The amount needed to be raised decreased because the Minneapolis urban League received a grant to fund the rest of the expenses. Yay!
Why is this important to me?
I began volunteering at The Minneapolis Urban League 6 months ago. I reached out to this organization because I have spent the majority of my career in mental health providing services to children and families in North Minneapolis. I moved jobs several years ago but found that North Minneapolis was never far from my heart and I wanted to stay involved and connected to this community.
