$450 goal

My junior and senior years of high school, I sifted through college letters, brochures, researching, etc. trying to figure out where I would go to school-would I stay in-state? Would I go out-of-state? I was unable to be a part of HBCU (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) tours but I remember my friends coming back from the tours so excited and ecstatic about seeing the greatness, our culture, the vibes of the HBCUs they visited; some even with their decision solidified for one of the HBCU campuses they stepped foot on. My HBCU friends are now pride alumni and enjoy going back for homecomings and other alumni events.

I ultimately made the decision, which I am proud of, to stay and attend the University of Minnesota and still sometimes wonder what even experiencing an HBCU tour grounded in my heritage, my culture would have really been like for me. (It was something I imagined and honestly still imagine to this day and will put down on my bucket list).

The Minneapolis Urban League's Project Ready program (details below) is hosting a HBCU Tour and I am committed to helping fund a high school scholar to be a part of this amazing opportunity and not have to worry about a major financial burden or cost being a factor. Students will walk away with not just knowing they went a trip...no. They will walk away with an educational, cultural experience of a lifetime that will shape them, mold them, broaden their horizons and help them decide their path for postsecondary education. So I ask you...help me fund a local high school scholar for a great opportunity on their journey of preparation by helping me raise $450 or more between now and Give to the Max Day (Thursday, November 16)! Let's do this!!

**Any donation amount made will be matched up to $2,000- so the impact will be doubled!**

About Project Ready

Project Ready prepares a new generation for success by integrating academic skill-building with life skill development and college culture awareness. It’s a student-centered program that will meet twice weekly from January to April and is geared towards students in grades 9-12. Not only will students be matched with a mentor during their senior year, but they’ll also participate in a HBCU tour around the Washington, DC metro area. Students will tour Hampton University, Howard University, Morgan State University and Virginia Union University as well as the African American History Museum.
