THANK YOU TO ALL!

Update posted 5 years ago

First we want to extend a special thank you to Guardian Angels for donating $130 in gift cards to workers.

Thank you to everyone for your generous support in this fundraiser. The outpouring of community support through donations and showing up to hearings has helped enormously in successfully obtaining and posting bond for the two workers who were detained. We set the initial goal of this fundraiser at $15,000 expecting that bonds would be set significantly higher than they were. Because the bonds were set at the minimum, we have actually exceeded our goal of having $5,000 left over after bonds to cover emergency needs for other workers.

Excited to be a part of such a powerful and loving community that backs the needs of the movement in the good times and in the hard times...

EMERGENCY SUPPORT NEEDED FOR WORKERS IMPACTED BY LABOR TRAFFICKING

While the Twin Cities Metro Area is undergoing a construction boom, this development frequently comes at the expense of workers, who toil long hours in deplorable conditions, only to be subjected to further abuses. Every worker, regardless of immigration status, has the right to fair pay and safe, dignified treatment, but immigrant workers trapped in  labor trafficking situations that violate their basic rights often cannot escape because of threats to call ICE - threats that have turned into realities for many workers in Minnesota. In turn, ICE often does pick up these workers to detain and try to deport them, even when investigations of labor violations are underway.

But the situation is not hopeless - in the face of all of these abuses, workers are standing up to fight for basic dignity and respect. Now we need you  all to stand with workers.

CTUL and  Minnesota Freedom Fund are partnering to raise money in response to the struggle of immigrant workers impacted by labor trafficking. Any amount will help someone get free from imprisonment, reunite with their family, or find a place to sleep for the night.

Our goal is to raise $15,000 by October 15 to cover several immigration bonds and provide critical support services for these immigrant workers.

Join CTUL and Minnesota Freedom Fund and be part of the movement to lift up all of our community so that progress for one is progress for all.
