I'm excited to be skiing my second American Birkebeiner on Feb. 24. It's 55K (that's 34 miles!) of beautiful wooded snowy ups and downs in NW Wisconsin (the photo above was taken in late December at my favorite spot on the Brikie trail). When I did it the first time two years ago it took me 7 hours to complete. Temps were in the high 30s and the snow was mushy and sloppy. I was all primed to give it another go last year, but the race had to be cancelled due to lack of snow.

Which is why I'm a Cool Planet Skier this year.  I've  experienced firsthand the impacts that climate change is having on our winters. And as an avid naturalist, I'm seeing its impacts on the wildlife and wild places I love.

Cool Planet is doing really great work engaging people in taking action on climate solutions. (And there are many solutions!!) Please join me in supporting them in their important work. (If you'd like to save the online fees, you can also send a check payable to Cool Planet ECF, 4244 Crocker Ave, Edina, MN 55416)

Please send lots of good energy my way on the 24th, as I'm shooting to finish the race in 6  hours this time. Thanks so much for your support!!

P.S. If you're in Hayward on Birkie weekend, be sure to attend a screening of the new documentary Saving Snow,  showing at the Park Theater on Thursday at 6 pm, Saturday at 6 pm, and Sunday at noon. Twin Cities folks can attend a screening at 2 pm on Sunday Feb 25 at the Bloomington REI.
