Meet The GiveMN Team
Nothing happens without our committed staff and our roster of dedicated board members. Here’s the team that works tirelessly to grow giving in Minnesota.
Jake is pretty much obsessed with fundraising and believes that a successful strategy, campaign, and message can expand the impact of the nonprofits and schools doing incredible work in our communities. He has helped lead record-breaking and history-making fundraising efforts—and is totally invested in helping Minnesota earn the title “The State of Giving.”
Jake was named executive director of GiveMN in 2015, and brings a background that spans leadership roles in nonprofits, politics, and higher education. As the senior director of development and community engagement at Open Arms of Minnesota, Jake launched multiple online giving campaigns that raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. As co-finance director of Minnesotans United, he helped lead a multimillion dollar campaign in Minnesota to win the freedom to marry for same sex couples. And in Washington D.C., Jake concurrently attained a master’s degree in political management from The George Washington University while working as a speech writer and associate director of development for The George Washington University Law School.
Dan is our jack-of-all-trades. He runs the training programs that help nonprofits and schools make the most of GiveMN. He crunches very important numbers.
Oh, and he’s in charge of thinking up new ways to make GiveMN even better.
Dan joined GiveMN in 2012, landing the job even though, or perhaps because, he wore crazy green socks to the interview. Before joining GiveMN, Dan spent five years as a gift planning officer at Gillette Children’s Hospital Foundation. He is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and holds a political science degree from the University of Minnesota Morris.
When he’s not doing the GiveMN thing, Dan helps to lead the Champlin Park High School Vocal Music Association and serves as president of the University of Minnesota Morris Alumni Association.
If a career could be made out of socializing, Andrea would be the industry leader. She believes that all great ideas start with a great conversation and puts that to use by connecting people and organizations who want to help ignite generosity in Minnesota.
A South Dakota native and Southwest Minnesota State University alum, Andrea joined GiveMN in 2016, bringing a background from the Minnesota corporate and nonprofit sectors. She started and led a corporate foundation that created new relationships with nonprofits and other corporations through giving and events. During her time at Open Arms of Minnesota, Andrea led major fundraising events to record-breaking results.
Andrea is on the board of TeamWomenMN, and has been named one of the “Top 25 Women to Watch in Business” by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.
When she’s not connecting people through purpose and ideas, you’ll find Andrea checking out amazing restaurants from Bemidji to Barcelona.
Tom is a big idea person who puts his considerable talents toward a singular goal: helping GiveMN grow giving in Minnesota.
Tom comes to GiveMN from the Georgia Center for Nonprofits (GCN), where he managed marketing and communications across several brands, including Georgia Gives, an online platform for Georgia nonprofits to raise money on Georgia Gives Day and all year round.
Tom received a master’s degree in public relations from the University of Georgia, and a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Lynchburg College. He originally hails from the Tidewater region of Virginia, and migrated to the Twin Cities in 2015 after two visits with perfect, 70-degree sunny weather (in spite of constant warnings that “winter is coming”) and actually thought his first winter wasn't too bad (in spite of constant reminders that "it was a relatively mild one.")
At GiveMN, Tom oversees communications and marketing efforts. When he’s not writing or Tweeting about giving, Tom enjoys travel, team trivia, and learning how to talk Minnesotan in spite of a southern accent. Tom also serves on the board of Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of the Twin Cities (YNPN). He is the guardian (or possibly vice versa) to a lazy tuxedo cat named Sid.
Mai was born and raised in St. Paul and brings a background in community outreach and philanthropy to help GiveMN continue to ignite generosity and grow giving. She helped kick off the Knight Green Line Challenge in St. Paul in 2014 that awarded more than $1 million to community projects along the new Metro Transit Green Line connecting downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul. She currently serves as a committee member on the Asian Pacific Endowment Fund through The Saint Paul Foundation. Prior to joining GiveMN, Mai served as an AmeriCorps VISTA at the Saint Paul Public Schools Foundation.
At GiveMN, Mai will assist thousands of nonprofit and school leaders and donors as part of the GiveMN Help Team. She will also provide administrative support to the GiveMN staff and assist with a wide variety of projects in pursuit of our mission.
Mai studied sociology at Augsburg College and is a proud Auggie alumna. When asked about the three things everyone should know about her, she didn’t hesitate to answer—she loves deep conversations over coffee, Beyonce, and very spicy food.
