Miguels Hands

A nonprofit organization

Miguel Muñoz escaped the gangs in El Salvador by coming to the United States in 2012 and applying for asylum when he was just 15 years old. He grew up in Hudson, WI with his mother, his stepfather, and older brother Jorge with the hope of finding a better future than what he felt he could find in Sonsonate, El Salvador. Unfortunately, neither Miguel nor Jorge were granted asylum. In 2014, Jorge was deported back to El Salvador, leaving an income gap in his household. In 2016, Miguel was deported back to El Salvador at 20 years old. At 21 years old, Miguel was murdered by the gangs that he was escaping when he came to the United States in 2012.

We hope to use Miguel’s history to simultaneously leave an impact for those that are victims of deportation while raising awareness about the push and pull factors that influence one's decision to migrate in the first place. Miguel’s Hands works to ensure that deportees receive the necessary support during one of the most uncertain times of their lives, beginning with financial aid while they are in ICE Facilities; this financial aid allows access to effective hygienic products like soap, deodorant, toothpaste, and menstrual products. We carry out this aid upon their deportation with additional financial aid, cell phones, and clothing. Lastly, we want the survivors of deportations to have access to necessities to be successful in their homeland, so we've recently expanded our services to financial aid for medical care and education-- these often contribute to the push and pull factors that cause the influx of migration from developing countries.

Many times, the deportees have no resources or connections upon arriving. With no money in their pockets, many fall victim to numerous uncertainties and challenges upon arrival to their homeland. Miguel’s Hands purpose is to alleviate this transition by offering aid to deportees with the resources to succeed. Your donation will allow us to continue our work and provide the necessary resources to victims of deportation.

Thank you for taking the time to read our mission, and we hope you consider donating to Miguel's Hands.
