HW's Story: One Step at a Time

When HW returned to the community after incarceration, he knew he wanted a different future. Like many people starting over, he faced challenge after challenge. Finding stable work wasn't easy, and there were times when the road ahead felt overwhelming.

Instead of giving up, HW decided to keep moving forward.

With the support of his Kingsmen Project mentor, he enrolled in CDL training and earned his commercial driver's license. That was only the beginning. To gain experience, he accepted different driving jobs, learning new skills and proving himself with every opportunity.

The journey wasn't always smooth. There were setbacks, moments of doubt, and obstacles that tested his determination. During those difficult times, HW stayed connected to his mentor. He talked honestly about his struggles, asked for guidance, and was willing to listen. Together, they worked through each challenge one step at a time.

Because HW chose to lean into the support around him instead of facing everything alone, he kept moving forward.

Today, HW is a union truck driver for a major company in the Minneapolis area. He has a full-time career that provides a living wage, allowing him to pay his rent, meet his financial responsibilities, and build a stable future. More importantly, he has confidence in himself and hope for what lies ahead.

HW's story reminds us that success doesn't happen because someone never struggles. It happens because they have the courage to keep going and someone beside them who believes in them.
