Resources for Nonprofits & Schools

The GiveMN and RaiseMN teams have adjusted our work in the immediate future to assist nonprofits and schools during this crisis in an area we're best suited to provide support: fundraising and individual giving. Below, we'll continue to update resources, news and announcement from our team and our community partners as we work through this crisis together.

On behalf of our team, we're thinking of you and wishing you, your loved ones, and your organizations the best through this time.

Processing fee rebate for Minnesota nonprofits and schools
This is an extraordinary time for the world, and we’re all making difficult decisions. For GiveMN, we’re making decisions shaped on our values of abundance, community connection, equity in action, and courage to try. That’s why we’ve made the decision to donate the proceeds of our portion of the processing fee—approximately 2%—as a rebate back to Minnesota organizations who receive donations on GiveMN.org during the months of March, April and May of 2020.

Organizations who receive gifts throughout these three months will receive all rebate funds with their June 10 disbursement once the rebate period is complete on May 31.

Upcoming RaiseMN coaching and workshops

Our fundraising coaches are here to help
Our RaiseMN coaches continue to meet with organizations via Zoom to discuss their fundraising strategy! Contact Andrea Kopfmann to learn more or schedule an appointment at andreak@givemn.org.

Upcoming RaiseMN public workshops
GiveMN has made the decision to cancel all RaiseMN in-person group workshops for the remainder of 2020. The majority of these workshops were scheduled to take place in the first half of the year, and there is still uncertainty over when guidance will suggest a group of our workshop size (50-75) may convene, and whether or not holding this type of group gathering is in the best interest of our partners in the foreseeable future.

If you purchased a Class Pass or single tickets to any of our workshops, you will receive an email from the RaiseMN team with more information about our decisions and refunds. We were very much looking forward to meeting with hundreds of you in person through this year’s workshop series, and we’re working hard to build out virtual programming and opportunities for the remainder of the year.

What we're talking about: fundraising through a crisis
GiveMN's Jake Blumberg and Leah E. Olm took time for a virtual chat on March 19 to discuss their thoughts on fundraising during a crisis, things to consider if you've had to cancel an event, and how nonprofits take/make space during this time that affects us all.

Framing donor communications during a crisis
How should organizations communicate with donors during a crisis like COVID-19? According to GiveMN's Jake Blumberg: take a deep breath, and center it around building authentic relationships and on the communities you serve. Read.

Resources from our community partners

A coordinated community response
Since the beginning of March, GiveMN has been part of a group of organizations coordinating a multi-pronged approach to support Minnesota’s nonprofit sector during the COVID-19 pandemic. In conversations with our partners, we’re working to triage our response and create a support network for the sector.

Propel Nonprofits | Programs and services focusing on nonprofits' strategy, finance and governance.
Minnesota Council of Nonprofits | Statewide association of nonprofits providing information and advocacy.
HandsOn Twin Cities | Connecting nonprofits and volunteers around the most pressing needs.
Pollen | Bringing communities together through storytelling and collective experiences around art.
Minnesota Council on Foundations | A network of philanthropy collectively advancing prosperity and equity.
Charities Review Council | Building donor and nonprofit relationships for vibrant, just communities.

We have also been in contact with organizations we support through our RaiseMN programming, such as the Women's Foundation of Minnesota, Headwaters Foundation for Justice, Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation, and more.
