Located in Minneapolis, employees and volunteers provide health care, mental health and social services to thousands of metro-area residents each year. N.I.P.’s/NIP programs provide a vital safety net to people without health insurance, new immigrants,  those working to manage mental illness, seniors struggling to remain independent, those recovering from the trauma of sexual violence, and youth and their families living in poverty. Our on-going mission is to strengthen individuals and the community by providing quality healthcare, education and social services to our underserved neighbors. N.I.P. has maintained a reputation for innovation, integrity, and community collaboration that has been developed over an organizational history spanning more than 40 years. The agency was founded in the mid-1960’s by an interdenominational group of faith communities located just southwest of downtown Minneapolis. Incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)3 agency in 1968, N.I.P. initially offered volunteer-based programs for youth and single parent families. In 1972, the agency expanded to establish a health care clinic and a pioneering rape crisis center. In 2006, as part of N.I.P.’s ongoing efforts to respond to community needs, N.I.P. relocated its Youth Programs staff and some Seniors Program and Mental Health Program staff to our North Minneapolis offices located in the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches’ Center for Families. With a depressed economy, increased job loss and an overarching pressure on individuals and families on how society views them, N.I.P. services are in more need and demand than ever. Our programs approach health care from a collaborative, comprehensive perspective in that we see one’s health as a combination of physical, emotional and psychological components. Our programs provide medical, dental, mental health, senior, youth and family support services to our underserved neighbors who are low income, uninsured or underinsured individuals and families working to maintain their jobs, healthcare and lifestyles in a time of economic crisis.
